Isopod Care Essentials
Protein
Isopods & Springtails alike will benefit from protein. We offer a protein rich calcium mix guaranteed to be loved by your isopods
Calcium
Isopods need calcium for strong and shiny exoskeletons. We offer an organic multi-source calcium mix for pods that we use in house for all of our pods!
Hardwood Leaf Litter
Isopods are detritivores. They will greatly benefit from from leaves consistently being in their enclosure. Leaves will also aid in microclimates and moisture retention which benefit isopods as they molt with growth.
Moisture
Regardless of tank size, isopods will need some moisture, somewhere in their enclosure or your bioactive setup.
A moisture gradient is best for pods.
Dry >semi-arid>Wet/Damp
(with sphagnum moss for more retention)
They may take to cork bark, under a water dish, under/on leaf litter, or in corners which would have a different microclimate.
Springtail Care Essentials
Charcoal & Substrate Mixes
Springtails will benefit from a compost rich substrate mix with organic large chunk charcoal, horticultural charcoal, or activated charcoal, and or clay mixtures.

Springtail Food
Isopods are detritivores. They will greatly benefit from from leaves consistently being in their enclosure. Leaves will also aid in microclimates and moisture retention which benefit isopods as they molt with growth.
Moisture
Springtails will thrive in warm temperatures with high humidity. 70%-90%.
Standing water will result in drowned springtails, and excess water is best avoided in soil mix cultures (like ours).
If you intend to pour springtails hands free with water - we recommend starting your own culture on charcoal and keeping your soil culture available to you!
